Rope And Related Uses
For UHMWPE and Spectra

UHMWPE and Spectra share very similar properties and end-use applications. Ropes made from these products have a higher breaking strength than that of steel wire ropes of the same thickness, but have only one-tenth the weight. These ropes have good UV, seawater, abrasion, cutting and fatigue resistance.

With their low specific gravity, they also float.

Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber

The world's strongest fiber. A superstrong polyethylene fiber that offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on weight for weight basis. It floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. UHMWPE is an important component in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries. It is also used in fine yarns for applications in sporting goods and the medical sector. In addition, UHMWPE is also used in bullet resistant armor and clothing for police and military personnel.

spectra fiber

Spectra fiber provides super-fine, super-strong and ultra-lightweight fibers for body armor, aerospace and high-performance sporting goods applications.

Spectra is stronger and lighter than most commercial high-modulus fiber and has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of any manmade fiber.

Spectra fibers high tenacity makes it pound-for-pound 10 times stronger than steel, more durable than polyester and gives it a specific strength that is 40 percent greater than aramid fiber.

  • One of the highest strength to weight ratios of any synthetic fiber
  • Outstanding toughness and extraordinary visco-elastic properties allow Spectra fiber to withstand high-load strain-rate velocities
  • Light enough to float (0.97 specific gravity)
  • High resistance to chemicals, water, and ultraviolet light
  • Excellent vibration damping, flex fatigue and internal fiber-friction characteristics
  •

Why it is best for wakeboarding

  • Zero stretch: no rebound, no 'rubber-band' or bungee effect
  • .97 specific gravity: floats.
  • Ultra-durable, so you don't have to buy a new rope every season
